Cassandra will never tell anyone this, but she wants to protect Alex. In such a short time, she's already become somewhat fond of him - his desire to do good, his tenacity, his sense of humor that entertains her even though she has to hide it. She wants to see him do well. And she feels an obligation to Ginny; all she can do for her late friend is to help the man she loved. Cassandra knows Alex will never feel anything kind for her. He considers her part of The House, the lesser of two evils. But that won't keep her from wanting to protect him, even if he throws her through that window in the end.
