Believe
Karla wasn’t sure she knew what it meant to believe in love after the incredible pain of her past. Sure she knew what it was to love people… She loved her parents, her dearest friends, and more than anyone else in the world, she loved Richie. But the idea of falling in love, letting someone into her life in a close and intimate way, terrified her. Or at least it had until she met Carter. He was different, and that had been undeniable from the very start. He had something about him that made her want to get to know him better.
And just as Richie had said, when you were dating someone, and all those small things were going nicely, it was only natural that you would want to be closer and more intimate with that person. It had proven to be completely true, and the night that Karla asked Carter over to stay the night, what they had shared had been something beautiful. She hadn’t been afraid at all, instead dwelling on how amazing he made her feel in general, and how much she wanted and needed the connection with him. It had been a beautiful night that she would treasure forever, and all that she knew was that she wanted more… more intimacy, more closeness, more sex… more Carter.
It would be those feelings that led to the fact that she was lying in a king sized bed next to a sleeping Carter, his arm wrapped tight around her waist. And as she pulled the blankets in close around them, curling in against his side, she couldn’t deny that maybe she was coming to believe again.
