quote of the day 012.

"Never miss a good chance to shut up."

Shelby doesn't say anything as the World team takes their victory lap. Just lifts the helmet off her head and runs a hand through her hair, soaked in sweat, and lets it all sink in. Her hopes of taking the Nations Cup demolished in the semifinals but at least she can say she did her part, three wins in the bracket making her the top individual player in Group A plus edging out Tony in the relay. And really she doesn't mind if they don't win. She's just grateful for the chance to have competed.

That sounds like the most cliche thought ever but she knows it's true. She came down here driving against people she'd never even met before, in cars she'd never even seen before. She was with a new teammate she hadn't collaborated with before. She wasn't even sure she'd get out of the first round. So this for her has been about shutting up, learning and putting that education into action. Shelby definitely knows she's learned a few things she'll take with her going forward into the new IndyCar season. Not to mention several memories that she'll talk with Tony and Ryan and James with when they're standing around the pit lane.

People have asked her what the key to her success is and if she had to answer, she'd tell them it's experiences like this. Making the transition from a young gun always speaking her mind to a woman who learned when to be quiet and just listen to all the experience around her. She's a much smarter driver now, and probably a better person, and it's all happened in these silences where she just realizes how much is at her fingertips.
