093.4. Drabble Prompt

Lisa distractedly re-tied the sash of her silk bathrobe while she debated if she had time to go make a cuppa while she waited. She was English, tea should be able to soothe any situation. It had to be better than the absentminded pacing back and forth in front of the toilet she had just caught herself doing.
Instead, she paused to give herself a long, hard look in the mirror. New York was fantastic. She was loving it. The show was a hit, but then, Chicago always was so it was a sure thing anyway. Her new relationship with Sam was blossoming, and he was such a kind-hearted gentleman that he had managed to sweep her off her feet unlike anything she had ever felt before. Caden was happy with his business thriving. Her son was… the very reason why she was feeling so anxious right about now. At least, one of the biggest reasons, in a posse of other reasons this all could be a potentially disastrous situation.
But she wasn’t going to count her chickens before they hatched. It wouldn’t do anyone any good to start panicking unnecessarily and trying to map out what may be merely nothing of a concern. No matter how much inner pep talking she tried to give herself here right now, it wasn’t alleviating the anxiety bubbling up inside her. The what-ifs she was letting filter through her normally very rational brain felt like they would drive her nuts. The timing was all off, but something like this, at this point in her life, timing would never be ‘right’.
And then the timer on her phone started to beep and the dreaded 00.00 stared back at her once she stopped the alarm. She was a grown woman, there was no need to be fooling herself here. She just had to own this, and whatever happened, deal with it.
She grabbed up the little white stick that had been lying on the bathroom counter and took a bracing breath before checking the result.
“Oh, bollocks...” she mumbled. The chickens just officially hatched.
