102.4. Drabble
Silent
The silence in the darkened hotel room was calming. Billy knew he could lie there forever like that if it was possible. Many couples probably took holding your lover naked in the cosy warmth beneath the covers for granted. Many probably took sex for granted too, assumed it was a given... an obligation or an expectation. Billy never would. He knew that for people struggling with their self-image and self-worth like Ajay did, something like this could be an incredibly huge step.
Ajay was sleeping soundly. His breaths were barely audible, but Billy could feel his deep and even breathing as he softly brushed his fingers back and forth over Ajay's bare abdomen beneath the covers. He could never, ever take this for granted. Maybe it was only the second time they had slept together, but he didn't need quantity. It was only the second time Ajay had been completely naked with him, and the first was when Billy nearly passed out in the shower during chemo and Ajay just reacted, stripping off and climbing in under the hot spray to make sure Billy didn't fall and crack his head open.
There was not a single part of Ajay Billy would ever take for granted. They had their very high and painful hurdles, to say the least. But they talked them through, and getting away to a hotel for the night, they had the privacy to really dig deep into their heart and just talk. Ajay talked about a lot of things. Billy listened. Then Billy talked about a lot, and Ajay listened. Being able to do this, it surpassed the necessity of sex.
Then it had just happened so naturally. Ajay hadn't hesitated this time. There was no anxiety or fear about undressing with Billy. It wasn't beyond Billy to know what a huge and massive step Ajay just took with him. He would never not know how priceless that was. And now, even though Ajay was fast asleep, Billy kissed his shoulder softly while he held him, and whispered close to him, "I love you."
