A Big Mistake
Zed made the big mistake of thinking he could just try to carry on as normal once prescribed a heavy dose of PEP. The doctors at the hospital told him he may get side effects, but not everyone did. However, they also said that the people who did were generally hit pretty hard with them. The added disclaimer was that, if you do get the side effects, you have to just keep pushing on through them because PEP was the most effective defense against potential HIV exposure - to lessen the chances of contracting the infection.
The first day lulled him into a false sense of security. He felt okay, though distinctly exhausted. He put that down to all the stress and shock he had weathered in the past couple of weeks. First trying to intervene on Justin's path of destruction, then dealing with Caleb, and finally being a stupid dickhead trying to run away to Vegas to drown his sorrows in an abysmal fight or flight response. It culminated in cutting his hand on a Swiss Army Knife and waking up feeling like shit in a Vegas ER with a female hooker at his bedside and a reactive Rapid HIV test.
If he could just go back to normal, he could try to shove it aside and not think about it until he had to be tested again at the three month mark to see if he had contracted the virus. It was awful to think about and his gut was in a twisted knot all the time now. But he fucked up, and now he had to bear the consequences. Assuming he was okay when he went a day feeling fine and into the second day with just a niggle headache, Zed kept his performing schedule and didn't cancel any shows.
That was the start of the big mistake. The show started out okay, but the headache was getting worse. He actually began hating on his own music because it was so fucking loud and rough. Not at all conducive to someone with a thumping headache. If that was the only issue, he would have just pushed on. But to make matters worse, somewhere in the first set he started to feel sick and nauseated. He knew what was happening, but he wanted to just finish the show and keep burying his head in the sand.
No such luck. Into the second set, he went and pulled a full on Gaga and Bieber, running off the stage mid-song to throw his guts up. The janitor was going to hate him. He couldn't even manage the classiness of Gaga and go right back to performing because it felt like it wasn't going to stop. When he did finally manage to stop, he was woozy and trying to hold himself up on the stair railing was pointless. Being overheated and probably dehydrated, he lost his grip on the stairs and for the first time in his life, passed out cold and hit the floor heavily.
