Savoir-faire / To know what to do

School, and then to the hospital to visit Andi. It had become Sasha’s routine for months now. After school, he wouldn’t even bother going home to change, he would just drive to the hospital from school and chill there for a couple of hours before he had to go home for dinner. Though, this last week, his schedule had begun to change in ways he was still trying to wrap his head around.

“What are you grinning at?” Andi asked him, interrupting his thoughts.

Sasha looked up from his textbook in his lap, from where he was probably doing a good imitation of studying, when really he had been daydreaming, his concentration lapsing ages ago. "What?"

Andi smirked knowingly at him. "You. You have this goofy smile on your face. Spill it, Stanton."

The grin widened. "I have date," he confessed, bashfulness tinging the edge of his words. Like he could deny the happy mood he was in. He still couldn't believe it was happening, but he wasn't taking it for granted.

"WHAT?!" Andi shrieked. "You do not!"

"I do so! It's not that hard to believe, is it?" Sasha cried.

Andi nodded with a snort of laughter. "Pretty much is, Sash. Tell me everything! Who are they? Do I get to meet them?"

The goofy smile was back. Needless to say, the textbook was closed, school work forgotten. "Well, you already have..." he revealed.

"I have? Who is it? When's the date? Where are you going? Who asked who? What are you going to wear?" Andi pressed.

Sasha knew what was happening here. Andi was absolutely excited for him - that went without saying - but she was also living vicariously through him here. He had truly thought she would be gone before they ever got a chance to have a conversation like this with her. It was bittersweet. Sasha smiled shyly and took his phone out to show Andi his new lockscreen photo... a selfie he and Justin had taken at the recent party.

"No way! NO WAY." Andi was reaching to try to get the phone off him for a better look. It wasn't easy hooked up to countless IVs and other medical machines keeping her going for now. "Oh my god! How?! When?! He has a boyfriend! Sash, you little minx."

Sasha blushed a deep red. "They broke up," he explained hastily when he handed his cell phone over. "It's only just happened. Things started to move in that direction at the party, but mostly we've just talked more and more. Then he sent me a text and asked me to go on a date. We're going to see Fantastic Beasts tomorrow night. I'll come visit you in the morning, then catch the train down. School's closed the rest of the week, remember? And then, he's asked me to come to the charity Christmas concert as his guest this weekend."

Andi was examining the photo with a smile. Sasha was pretty sure she was stroking the screen by this point. "Didn't you say he wasn't going to do the concert if you didn't go through with the wish thing? Damn, boy, how the hell did you manage this?"

"I have no idea," Sasha laughed, shaking his head. "It just sort of did. But yeah, that is what he initially said, though he said he's been feeling better the past few days, and he would prefer not to miss his charity work unless he can't cope with it. He said he wants me to come watch him perform, even if I can't go through with that singing thing."

"Is this the only photo you have together? I want to see more," Andi told him. "You're crushing so hard on him, it's adorable. Now that goofball face suddenly makes sense."

Sasha shook his head, pointing with a little circle motion of his finger at the phone, telling her to scroll through the other photos. "And, did you do this... arrange for him to meet me... because you're trying to help me find more friends before you die?"

"It took you this long to cotton on to that?" Andi murmured, looking up from where she had been smiling at the photo of Justin, Sasha, a gorgeous little blonde girl, and a little puppy, all decked out in cheesy Christmas attire. It was Christmas card picture perfect.

"Took me this long to want to talk to you about it," Sasha corrected. "Justin's helped me see things in a different light."

Andi tilted her head, and gave him a soft smile. "So, I can trust you're in good hands now?"

"I'm not replacing you."

"Fuck, I know that. I like I'm replaceable," Andi joked. She put the phone down in the blankets across her lap and reached for his hand. "But I also won't be coming back."

Sasha took her hand, holding it as tightly as he could manage without hurting her. "I'm going to do it."

"Do what?"

"Sing for you," Sasha promised her. He pointed to his phone. "If Justin can get up after three consecutive suicide attempts to still work for charity because he knows how much it means to his fans, then I can do this."

"If he's special enough to help you see how special you are, you better believe I'm seizing this one with both hands. I'd be doing a victory lap right now, but no one needs to see my scrawny ass in this gown."

Sasha laughed, shaking his head fondly. "Just for the record, if I die of stage fright and they put me in the ground first, I'm coming back to haunt you."

Andi flipped him off, but she was still smiling. "Does this mean what I asked you about is off now? On account of the fact you're dating a freaking celebrity."

"Leave it with me. I can't exactly have sex if I die from stage fright, can I?" Sasha replied. He was still thinking about her proposal, but for now, he at least knew one thing he needed to do, even if he was still sure he might not come out from it alive.
