Go to philosophy 101's list of emotions, pick ten, and write 10 drabbles of 100 words each relating your muse experiencing these emotions
WEARY
The heart was something generally just thought of as ruling your love life. For everything else, it just pumped away inside, keeping you alive, but unless it was causing you a problem, you didn’t think about it. Harley learnt the value of his heart in the hardest of ways. Having a heart -attack at thirteen had a way of making you take stock of the life and what may await you in the future.
The future was just a very hard thing to consider when your body was working against you with the most simplest of tasks leaving you weary.
PROUD
Harley was an only child, and he always wanted to make his parents proud. Falling ill, he had sought solace in writing and developed a strong ambition to become a professional writer. He aimed high to becoming a journalist, but the work was hard for him when he regularly fell ill and didn’t have the energy to focus.
When it later came to light that his arsehole father blamed his mother for conceiving a sickly child who would end up costing them more money they didn’t have, Harley stopped fighting for their pride and started fighting only for his mum.
ANGER
Anger wasn’t a strong enough word to cover how Harley had felt coming home from his first day on the job as a qualified journalist to witness his father beating his mother within an inch of her life. Normally a person who preferred a peaceful and uncomplicated environment, he hated violence with every fibre of his soul. Especially with the memories of what his cousin went through twelve months prior.
It was the first time he ever hit anyone that night. It was the first time he actually frighteningly thought he could be capable of taking a life.
His father’s.
CRUSHED
Harley and his cousin, Liam, were only a month apart in age. With Liam have six siblings and Harley being an only child to mothers who were identical twins, they were both raised very close and Liam was like a brother to Harley.
Nothing could have ever prepared him for the crushing phone call he received to be told Liam had been attacked and sexually assaulted one night in a New York nightclub. The blow made him feel nauseous, like he couldn’t breathe, and completely helpless with entire oceans separating them. And it was only the start of the nightmare...
FEAR
Harley may have risked his own life that night to save Julian’s, but he knew that hadn’t really even crossed his mind. He didn’t think he would ever forget the chilling fear that ran through him from the very moment he realised what that gang was going to do to Julian. He didn’t know him. Not even a hint of a clue who he was.
Whether Julian remained in his life after that moment wasn’t known. He would just never, ever forget the chilling sound of the baseball bat connecting with the back of Julian’s skull with the first hit.
SHOCKED
Love had been concept that evaded Harley’s understanding. He knew he wanted it because it looked like a really great thing to share with someone. He just never expected that the first person to really claim his heart would be the guy who had nearly died on blood-soaked sand in the pouring rain under the pressure his hands trying to resuscitate him.
He had still been in a state of awed disbelief when it took an even more unexpected turn with Julian proposing to him not all that long since that horrific night, and Harley happily (albeit with shock) accepted.
PAIN
The pain that came with seeing someone you loved hurting was something Harley had to learn the hard way. Just when they had thought Julian was on the mend, he fell seriously ill and they were soon being told he had complete kidney failure. It was find a kidney donor or be in dialysis for life.
As much as hugs and kind words could feel nice, nothing seemed enough. All Harley could do was sit and watch Julian in agony. If he had been a religious guy, he would have resorted to prayer when all else seemed to be failing.
PASSION
Most couples probably took sex for granted, especially early in the relationship. The unconventional way Harley met and fell in love meant that he and Julian didn’t have the ability to consummate their relationship at the start. It actually felt like a freaking lifetime before they were able to and Harley had been starting to feel like vital parts of his anatomy would fall off.
It meant their first time was more than just sex, though. Their passionate connection that finally came following the ordeal and the wait that it demanded was what made the whole thing worth every second.
ANNOYED
Harley could be a huge bitch when the need arose. People often made the mistake thinking he was a sweet and innocent soul; butter wouldn’t melt and all that. It just meant his bitch streak had a bigger impact when it did need to hit. This was something Julian learned the interesting way when he tried to sneak a cigarette during his convalescence following a kidney transplant.
Smoking was one of the big no-nos for a renal transplant patient, and Julian soon found himself on the rude end of a bitchout and cut off from sex for a full week.
RELIEF
Harley had never been much of a deep sleeper. It was one of the many contrasts he had discovered when he started dating Julian and they began sharing a bed together. Julian slept like a hibernating log on Nyquil and with a head injury. It was some form of miracle that he didn’t snore, and instead did this cute heavy-breathing almost-snore.
But Harley was okay with that, because it was one of the ways he could remind himself Julian was okay and healing. It brought contented relief, because not all that long ago, Harley wasn’t sure Julian would make it.
