Unexpected
Corey just sat there in shock. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do. Cry? Throw up? Wet himself? Shout? Scream? Hit something? Instead, he just sat there on the sofa between his parents, dark eyes locked on the surface of the coffee table separating him from Euan and Julie sitting across from them.
It was like his ears were blocked, and all he could hear through it was an unusual ringing. Goosebumps prickled his skin and he was shaking, the unexpected news having hit him like a freight train. In the end, he didn’t do any of those things. He wasn’t even sure if anyone was waiting for his reaction, but after awhile of tuning everything out around him, he just got up off the sofa and numbly walked out without looking back.
