Quote of the Day 075.

“Obstacles are placed in our way to see if what we want is really worth fighting for.”
- Unknown

It seemed like it was going to be a good day. For the first time in a week, Euan wasn’t bedridden and he had come down stairs that morning (albeit slowly) to have tea with Julie. Ciaran and Noah were still in their beds, dead to the world, and the house was quiet... possibly even peaceful for the time being. Maybe it was a far cry from his usual attire, but there was something fondly endearing about Euan’s Star Wars pyjama pants and knitted sweater that was swimming on him now.

The kettle was boiling and the teapot already housing Irish Breakfast tea leaves in wait. He stopped to lean against the counter with a wan smile for her, and she stepped up to him, cupping his face in her hands and brushing a soft kiss to his lips. He was unshaven, but that was the norm for him. Sick and poorly, he was still the man who had stolen her heart and married her, despite everything. She loved him with everything in her, even if her heart hurt inside for him battling the illness plaguing him at the moment.

She just wished today didn’t have to be the day she was starkly reminded how sick. Her hands left his cheeks to nurse the back of his and her words asking him how he was feeling that morning died on her lips when she realised what would normally be an affectionate gesture was yet another indicator of what they were facing. She knew what was happening, but still, pulling her hand away from his head to find thick clumps of his dark hair had come away just from the soft touch.

He saw her expression before she had a chance to hide it. He always had a way of doing that. Her eyes tearing up as she looked at her hand and then met his gaze when he took it. He paled just that slightest bit more and she saw him swallow heavily, closely followed by a deep, resolute sigh. It was just one more thing to add to his shit list... she could almost see that exact thought running through his mind. It was another hurdle, another obstacle they had to face together. And just one more thing to remind them how much they had to keep fighting because if there was one thing she admired in Euan, it was that he wouldn’t give up until he dropped dead.
