Lately, life didn’t feel like it ever stopped for Harley. Since witnessing his father beating his mother, and then subsequently learning he had been doing it for a long time and she was just trying to protect Harley from the stress of the situation, he had felt like he had been on an emotional rollercoaster that wasn’t stopping. He had used every last penny of his savings to move him and his mum to New York to be with the family they already had there, and it had been a hopefully fresh start. Harley wouldn’t have been satisfied with her just getting out of the house away from the monster he hated to admit fathered him. It had to be out of the country, as far away as possible.

Then he met Julian... )

Quote of the Day 007.
“To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there.”
- Barbara Bush

It was the days like these that Jace really did wish he had a Delorean and could go back in time to make it that he never had a brain injury. Usually he could take it in his stride and knew that was the life hand he had been dealt, and there wasn't a thing he could do about it. But on the bad days, he wished he could erase the whole thing.

He had a crippling headache. Even the smallest amount of light felt like a laser burning into his brain. He wasn't even sure if he had seizures, but it felt like it had. Not a small one either. His head felt like it was going to explode. Normally, he could just roll over and crash out to sleep it off, but now and again, he had these days where he felt incredibly young, almost like the feeling was taking him back to the time he was a kid and trying to recover from the accident. Jesse was at work today, so he hadn't stayed over the night before. Evan had been called in for a nightshift and was now home in bed. At least, Jace really, really hoped he was.

His eyes were squeezed almost closed, just little cracks left to see where he was going. It felt like someone was squeezing his head and trying to burst it, and the tips of his fingers tracked along the wall to the door of his bedroom, and then up the hall to where Evan's room was. He didn't even knock. If he happened to be in there banging his new love interest, he was going to have to take a raincheck. Jace saw a lump in the bed and it wasn't moving, in fact it was snoring a little, so that was enough for him. He crawled into the bed beside his big brother, cuddled up against his back and tried to will himself to sleep to shut the pain out. He didn't want to be alone right now and days like this, Evan felt like a superhero to him.

The thing about being a big brother was you never really stopped being a big brother, no matter how much you both grew up.

Word of the Day 007.
Devotion
n. 1. profound dedication; consecration. 2. earnest attachment to a cause, person, etc.

For Nathan, being a doctor was the easy part. The hard part was watching the man you loved get torn away from you and knowing none of the skills you learned to become a doctor could help. It couldn't stop the pain. Overcoming the guilt was proving to be a near impossible task for him. He felt like he had let Tyler down not realising early in the game that the awful thing that happened to him had rapidly exacerbated a mental illness. If he had just realised, would he have been able to stop a lot of the pain?

In the early days, in the wake of Tyler's sexual assault, Nate had tried to hard to keep it together and be the strong one... )
