091.2. Muse Prompt (Quote)

"When did the rain become a storm?
When did the clouds begin to form?
Yeah, we got knocked off course by a natural force
And we'll, we'll be swimming when it's gone."

• Beautiful Goodbye, Maroon 5

Rose knew she was one of the luckiest chicks in the whole world. She didn't just have an amazing fiancé who was gorgeous, talented, and treated her like she was a princess, but she also had two honorary brothers in Beau and Austin, who shared the massive loft apartment with her, Angel, and their baby daughter, Daisy. Maybe it was a bit of a crazy, unconventional family construction, but she wouldn't have it any other way. Which is exactly why she knew deep within her heart that she had to be Austin and Beau's surrogate when they wanted to have a baby. They would make just as amazing fathers as Angel was.

What it culminated in was a surprise first Mother's Day party for her, under the guise of being a birthday party for Daisy. She would be one in a couple of weeks, which Rose was struggling to believe. This time a year ago, she was so incredibly pregnant and just passed her due date that every little thing felt like too much effort beyond sitting on the couch and stuffing her face with Cool Ranch Doritoes that she had craved right through the pregnancy.

This time, now eight weeks along after the successful but exhausting IVF process for the surrogacy, she wasn't craving anything because she was so freaking sick and tired. It was like everything was about fifty times worse this time around and she wished she was in some sort of sci-fi where you grew babies in fish tanks until they were ready to be born.

Still, it was her first Mother's Day and Angel apparently had been intent on spoiling her to the moon and back. All Rose wanted to do was stay in bed and steer clear of anything with a penis because the mood swings made her feel like she wanted to cut them off and beat them with them. She had three at her disposal too, so it was really tempting fate. Somehow, she managed to throw some peppermint and ginger tea down her throat, put on some clothes that didn't feel like they shrunk in the dryer, and put in an appearance at her surprise Mother's Day party, slash first birthday party for Daisy.

She had a ball too. How could she not? Her beautiful princess was nearly one, she was surrounded by not only her whole family, but also Angel and Austin's family, and Beau's family. There was way too much cake to be healthy for anyone, and she got such a kick out of seeing how much Austin and Beau were beaming being perfect uncles and anticipating their own little one on the way. Rose's belly got rubbed so much that day, she was starting to feel like a fucking Buddha, but she didn't mind. She hated when strangers had tried to touch her pregnant belly when she had been knocked up with Daisy, but family or friends were open field. There was no showing, but the excitement was still there.

But fuck, had she been exhausted after a couple of hours. It felt like she hadn't slept for a month and the 'morning' sickness was trying to kick back in and treating peppermint tea like its bitch. She hated to do it, but she passed little Daisy over to her daddy to continue the festivities and had to apologise profusely for needing to go lie down. The last thing she wanted was Austin or Beau to think she was hating every minute of this pregnancy. It wasn't that. It was just tearing her a new one. She had lulled herself into a false sense of security that it would be as management as the first.

Waking up, she didn't feel any better. In fact, she felt so much more worse when that didn't seem humanly possible. She reached to get her phone to check the time but was met with an incredible pain in her stomach that had her gasping and reflexively clutching it. It was nausea mixed with burning pain. This couldn't be good. She had been here before when she had a scare early in her pregnancy last time. "Oh, god..." she moaned to herself and tried to move to get up, but she wasn't even sure if she could stand.

It was sort of like she needed to throw up, but that felt like it was going to hurt too. The effort to get up was a vain one and she shoved the covers away in a messy pile down around her knees. That was when she saw it. Blood. There was no hiding it with the white skirt she had put on for the party and had just gone to bed in because undressing seemed too hard at the time too. "Oh god. N-No... no, no, no. Fuck, Angel! I NEED HELP!" she cried out, but it caught up in a sob and sounded more like a screech. She could be resonant when she wanted to be, but usually when she was in a bad mood.

This time, it was just plain terror. This couldn't be happening. Not after everything they had all been through to get this far.
