141.1. Lyrics

"They told you life is hard
It's misery from the start
It's dull and slow and painful
I tell you life is sweet
In spite of the misery
There's so much more
Be grateful."

• Life Is Sweet, Natalie Merchant

Hunter was lying on his stomach when wakefulness slowly trickled back to him. He became aware of a cosy warmth surrounding him and, soon, that he had an arm around him. His eyes battled opening and he blinked a few times once he pried them open a little. He wasn't in his own bed. The sheets were different, and the window was on the wrong side of the room. As soon as he got a little more consciousness, he found Cruz lying beside him, watching him. Cruz smiled softly. Hunter returned it sleepily.

They were both naked between the sheets, and he could feel Cruz's thumb stroking tiny little circles somewhere near his shoulder blade. Memories of the night before spilled back into his dozy mind. It had been such a mixed-bag of emotions. In a lot of ways, it still was. Did he regret what they did last night? No. It was a surprising realisation for him, but all he felt right now was content and relaxed.

It was still too early to strike up a conversation, but one wasn't really needed. Hunter rolled over onto his side and shuffled closer to Cruz. He brushed a lazy kiss to Cruz's lips and then nestled his head in against Cruz's on his pillow. They lay like that together for an indeterminable length of time, and Hunter only realised he dropped back off to sleep when he woke again later. The light peeking in from the drawn curtains had shifted, so it had to have been a little while. This time, he was spooned up behind Cruz. Cruz was hugging Hunter's arm against his chest, lips rested against Hunter's knuckles.

Hunter kissed the nape of Cruz's neck, and his inevitable morning arousal was pressed against Cruz's bare ass. This sleeping with another man thing was new to Hunter. The discovery of his true underlying sexuality was new and still very much an ongoing journey. It wasn't body parts he was attracted to. It was personality, soul, emotions. He was finding his feet with it, trying to understand it. That morning, he was still exploring. He was a little more awake this time, letting the sensation of this sink in.

The night before had been passionate. It was a need to connect on a very emotional level, and once again, it was comfort. On both their parts, not just him caring for Cruz this time. With the mutual give and take of feelings, it had been better a thousand times over than their first night together, back when Cruz was in the wake of a suicide attempt and just trying to feel live.

Hunter rolled his hips lightly, indulging in a little friction. His hand skimmed over Cruz's slender torso and soon, he was gently stroking Cruz in a languid rhythm. Even if they were still sleepy and in no hurry to get up, they were mutually aroused. Soon, Cruz reached to grab a condom and bottle of lube from where it had been messily stowed after their lovemaking the night before, and was letting it drop over his shoulder into Hunter's possession. Words were still surplus to requirement.

That was how Hunter rung in that snoozy Saturday morning. They moved together beneath the sheets, and he listened to every soft little sound of pleasure Cruz made. Hunter took Cruz's hand, lacing their fingers together, and Cruz once again nursed their joined hands to his chest and kissed Hunter's fingers. Things had been tough and miserable in the preceding days, but at that moment, all of that was far, far from his mind.
