Connection

Corey thought he was just accidentally getting another friend, and he ended up with a boyfriend in a very unusual turn of events. Although he had been with guys and been ‘out of the bi closet’ for awhile now, he had never officially dated a guy. He had dated girls, and being cheated on left him a little biter and cynical about the dating thing entirely. He hadn’t seen any of this coming, hadn’t anticipated it, but he also hadn’t letter his bitter cynicism sabotage it either.

He wanted to share it with someone. He was chuffed and even though it was going to come with baggage and hurdles he wasn’t quite sure how he would deal with until he was faced with, Bailey gave him those tell-tale gut butterflies and the thought of being able to spend more time with him was exciting and made him smile when he hadn’t had a lot to smile for recently.

Coming to the hospital to visit his Uncle Euan and little cousin, he was met with the site of his uncle snoozing in the visitor’s recliner chair. Not unusual at all. What was unusual was that sitting beside him and dozing on his shoulder was Julie, his work partner. But this wasn’t just moral support. They were holding hands and Uncle Euan had his other arm draped around her shoulders and cheek resting on her head. Corey just blinked. He was somewhat surprised, but not really. It was about time, as far as he was concerned, because they had been dripping in UST forever.

There was a faint smirk that turned into a smile while he stood there briefly watching the scene. It apparently wasn’t just Corey who had found some special spark and acted on it. He was proud of his uncle for letting Julie in, and he was proud of Julie for fighting like a boss to beat down those stubborn sturdy walls. Soon, he just moved to the other side of his uncle and sat down, resting his head against his uncle’s upper arm. Sometimes, a simple connection was all you needed to know you had an ally in the hardest battle where you knew your biggest was yourself.
