6. I promise that if you ever decide not to treat your mom with respect, you and I are going to have a long and unpleasant talk about it.
7. I promise to always be a part of your life as long as there's breath left in my body.
8. I promise to help your mom teach you just how much you're worth, and what an amazing person you are.
9. I promise to always be true to my word and never make you promises that I can't deliver on.
10. I promise to keep pictures of you in my wallet and tell everybody who'll listen how proud I am to be your dad.

Having a sick child was never easy, especially when they were so young and didn't really understand why they were feeling bad. Part and parcel of parenthood was battling the germs and bugs. Dani never wanted to be one of those super-obsessive parents who drowned their kids in Lysol and was constantly armed with a miniature bottle of hand sanitizer to douse them with at every turn. She didn't want to be a mom who went overboard on the healthy shit and started hyperventilating if her kid so much as breathed near a McDonalds. She had tried to raise her little boy well, but she never wanted to wrap him up in cotton wool so he looked back on his childhood feeling like it was always about Mommy being a pain in the ass and keeping him under the thumb 24/7 in case he caught the sniffles or a tummy bug.

Let me tell you something about Shane Worthington.

Shane Worthington is an ass. He spent years in Formula 1, calling the shots for McLaren when he wasn't somehow involved with trying to launch an American F1 effort, and I still don't quite know how he knows Mr. Penske but somehow he was recruited to come to IndyCar as our team's fourth strategist. So he shows up in Indianapolis last year acting like he's somehow superior because he's worked in Europe with Hamilton and Button and Montoya, and I'm coming back to a seat after a year in the cold.

( Needless to say, we did not get along. )
