108.1. Lyrics prompt

"I wanna tell you something,
give you something
Show you in so many ways
'cause it would all mean nothing
If I don't say something
Before it all goes away."

• Tell You Something, Alicia Keys

With Euan Fitzpatrick

Julie waited until Euan was free and the chair in his office was vacant from some ass or another that he was working with. It was lucky she didn't have any sort of superiority complex or her husband being appointed Captain and given a raise, therefore making him her boss might have caused issues in their marriage. Mostly, she just teased him about riding a desk these days because it was something no one ever thought they would see happen to Euan. He had emphatically rejected offers of promotion to Lieutenant, but after battling cancer, when he was put up for this position, he relented on the stubbornness for the sake of his family.

"Heya, hot stuff. Can I have a word?" Julie asked with a smile after giving his glass office door adorned with his name and title a soft knock.

Euan looked up from where he had been writing notes in a file and smirked devious at her. "Is this a closed door, blinds drawn kinda talk?" he asked and dropped his pen down atop the page. "Ya' smilin', so that's a good start. Unless ya' honed the art o'deliverin' bad news like a smilin' assassin. Which wouldn't surprise me if ya' were 'bout to come kick me in the cock again for somethin' I pissed off with."

Julie just rolled her eyes with a smirk of her own. She had known him so long, she was used to his antics. It was true, she hadn't only kneed him in the dick a time or two, she also had a history of punching him in the face and elbowing him in the gut in those years he was the resident bastard trying to crack onto her left, right and centre. Something had changed along the way, though. A lot had changed. It had changed in the wake of her almost being sexually assaulted by her ex-boss in the elevator one day and Euan had, in secret, flown home from London to beat the living shit out of him for it. And now they were married. Of course, in between all that, a lot had happened with them that changed their dynamic.

She closed the door and came over to sit on the edge of his desk in front of him. "Keep your hands, mouth and dick to yourself. At least until later after Ciaran's in bed," she added but leaned over and gave him a kiss anyway. "There's something I need to talk to you about. I was going to wait, but considering how complicated some of my cases have been these past few weeks, I have no idea when I'm actually going to make it home."

Euan rested his hand on her thigh, giving it a soft affection rub. He leaned back in his chair, looking up at her with his eyebrows raised. "Somethin' 'bout work or somethin' else?" he asked, noting she had closed his door. It wasn't uncommon for her to drop by his office, but it was usually casual and they didn't get caught up in their personal stuff while they were on the job most of the time. Unless it was urgent, like Ciaran falling sick or family matters that couldn't wait. "Or is it the report I sent up t'ya' from Savannah? Caleb and the mother both checked out."

Julie nodded and sighed, tucking her hair back behind her ears. "Can't exactly question the fact she was on jury duty in her state. I'm still waiting on the autopsy report. But that's not why I'm here. I called Zoran, he's getting rest. Didn't want to engage with me about the case at all, so I'm going to respect that for now. This isn't about the case. It's something else..." She paused, drawing a breath before she continued. "I'm late."

"Late f'what?" Euan asked, not at all cottoning on to what she was meaning. There were plenty of reasons for him to be dense too. It wasn't like him, but he had no reason to think there was anything beyond the face of these words.

"Late.." Julie repeated, with firm emphasis this time and giving him a pointed look. Then she held up her hands. "I know, I know. You have no reason to be following what I mean, but I am and I don't know what we're supposed to be doing about it."

That was about when the penny dropped for Euan. Not a lot shocked Euan, but this did. His eyes widened and his mouth dropped open. He proceeded to just stare at her, speechless. Speechless wasn't a concept anyone would associate with him. "Ya'... what... fuck... how?" Not at all eloquent, but it was the best he had right now. "Ya' think ya' knocked up? How th'fuck?"

Julie shrugged helplessly. "I know how the fuck. We both know how the fuck. You know how the fuck better than basically the entire population of the planet, let's be real here. But I don't know. And I don't know how I'm supposed to be feeling. I don't even know if I am, but I'm late and this is something I can't do without you because I'm really starting to freak out here after last time."

Euan stood up and put his arms around her, kissing her head. "Hey, I told ya' when we fuckin' took our vows, we're a fuckin' team on everythin' now. Doesn't matter what. Ya' ain't doin' nothin' without me. I promise ya' that." Half of him was wanting to jump for joy and do a victory lap around the station. All way too fucking premature, of course. This was heavy. That last time Julie was pregnant was right before Euan was diagnosed with cancer. She had a terrible miscarriage into the secon trimester, and it had been at a memorial service for the baby that Euan passed out and was rushed to hospital. Since then, after the chemo, they had been pretty sure he was infertile. The doctors told him that was almost inevitable, and recommended the whole awkward freezing sperm thing in case they wanted anymore children. But Julie had never been able to get to a point to know if she ever wanted to be pregnant again because it had been so traumatic for her to lose the baby.

"I'm freaking out," Julie mumbled, resting her head against his shoulder.

"Aye, can't blame ya' f'that, darlin'," Euan agreed and stepped back a little so he could see her face. He was brushing her hair back from her face, tucking the stray strands behind her ears. "What ya' wanna do? Ya' wanna head out, get a test? Or ya' want me t'take ya' t'the hospital, get it all done cut and dried?"

Julie was biting on her lip, thinking it over. "Bury my head in the sand and hope it goes away?"

"I ain't got any sand," Euan joked, smirking at her. "Got a ficus in the corner ya' can try with, but it ain't gonna be a good look. Well, not for anyone else. F'me, it'll be a prime view o'ya' arse, and I never have issues with that."

Julie gave him a firm smack in the arm with a snort. "Um..." She sighed and looked up at the ceiling, trying to think over what she should do here. "Fuck. Okay. Take me to the hospital. I'd rather know for sure. Just... nervous after last time, and now what's happening with Rosie. What do we do if this is a thing?"

Euan rubbed his hands soothingly up and down her arms. "Then we talk 'bout it and figure out together. Deal? I ain't just gonna pressure ya' into assumin' this is a sure thing. I know it ain't. We didn't think it was even possible, and holy fuck, if it is, I'm gonna buy a fuckin' lottery ticket or some shit." He cupped her face in his hands and they shared a kiss. "I love ya'. Whatever happens, darlin', nothin' changes with us. Ya' got that? Cross m'fuckin' heart for ya'."

Julie nodded and then just pulled him into a tight, clingy hug. He felt safe and secure. She had gone way too long when he had been sick thinking every day she woke up could be the day she found him without a pulse. Anything beyond that was a bonus. She just never in a million years thought this would be the direct the bonus took.
