"If you aren't in the moment, you are either looking forward to uncertainty, or back to pain and regret." - Jim Carrey

Reecy needed some breathing space and thinking time. She got into her car, and just started to drive, and kept driving until she got to the outskirts of Manhattan. She didn't really have a destination. She had wheels and music to help her clear her mind. Where she ended up was Atlantic City. It might be winter, but there was something sobering about sand and waves. Atlantic City was a lively place, but she wasn't here for the boardwalk or the casinos.

She sent a text to her dad and told him not to worry about her, but she had to turn her phone off for awhile. Hopefully there were no emergencies. Though, she wasn't running away. Needing space and running away were two entirely different things. She felt less like she was running away, and more like she was trying to find her way up to this crossroads in her life to know which way she was supposed to turn.

Parking had been a bit of a nightmare. She pulled up and looked out the windows, trying to decide if she wanted to battle the cold sea breeze. What was the point in driving all this way if she wouldn't? It was awhile that she sat in her car with the heating on and her favourite playlist blasting through her sound system. Her eyes remained locked on the series of waves crashing against the shore. The sea made the land of the globe seem so small, and people even smaller. It concealed a whole other world beneath the surface, and Reecy knew that was what she needed right now.

Soon, she unplugged her phone from her car and dropped it into her handbag. She had the forethought to bring her favourite winter coat, gloves, and scarf. Maybe it was an idiosyncrasy to be on the beach dressed like this. She wasn't here to build sandcastles and paddle in the waves. The cold breeze hit her cheek, and it was a nice tug on her emotions that reminded her to keep a cool head here. It was easy to loose track of time this far away from everything. Just weeks before, she had been on an Australian beach in a bikini, facing an horrific outcome. How life could continually throw you curve balls.

And what a curve ball. The water was mesmirising, but she did soon pull her gaze from the choppy surface and looked down at her handbag beside her in the sand. Reaching inside, she pulled out a photograph. Not only were her suspicions correct and she had fallen pregnant, but now this. As if that wasn't enough for her to try to wrap her head around, she also had no idea who the birth control had failed with. Multiple babies to multiple possible baby daddies.

Reecy kept telling herself she wasn't here to run away, but with her dark eyes now locked on this precious piece of paper clutched in her hand, she desperately hoped she had the strength not to get in her car and keep driving, as far away from New York as she could get...

Possible destination? Arkansas.
